Courtauld Gallery : Methods and Meaning

On September the 23rd and 24th the Yr. 12 and Yr.13 Art students participated in a two day workshop Methods and Meaning: The Art and Science of Conservation, run by the amazing art facilitator Alice Odin.

Students spent the day at the Courtauld Gallery gaining an insight into conservation practice, exploring the secret lives of paintings in the gallery through infra-red and x-ray imagery. On the second day Alice visited the school to run a full day workshop. The students had the opportunity to make their own egg tempera pigments from scratch, carried out some medieval painting using the traditional method and learnt how to gild using gold leaf.
